Find the Perfect Size

Step-by-step Measuring Guide

Here at Babyshoes we like to keep things simple. Parents have enough stresses in their lives, never mind having to choose whether they want to do a face-to-face fitting, a virtual fitting, buy a small size gauge, buy a big size gauge or follow an ‘easy’ 50 step guide online.

So, with the above in mind here is our ‘very easy’ (we promise it really is!) tried and tested guide on how to measure your little one’s feet:

STEP ONE

Grab a pen, paper and ruler.

STEP TWO

Place the paper on a hard flat surface.

STEP THREE

Stand your little one onto the piece of paper. Make sure that their feet are as flat as possible and not arched.

STEP FOUR

Make a mark with your pen next to their heel and around their big toe (on each foot).

STEP FIVE

Using your ruler, measure their longest foot in centimetres to the nearest millimetre (e.g. 13.5 cm).

STEP SIX

Take a note of the measurement and then use the size guides below or on each of our product pages to choose the most appropriate size.

Sizing FAQs

No, children’s feet grow at different rates, so there is no size that can fit
all children of a certain age.

Borboleta is made to a wide fitting (G/H) and also comes up approximately
one size bigger than other brands. Fofito is made to a standard (F) width
fitting and is true to size in terms of length.

We’d recommend any of our Borboleta styles as they offer the extra space
you’re little one will need.

Pre-walker (soft sole) shoes can be worn from 0-6 months. We advise that
as soon as your little one starts to take their first steps, you should put
them in a pair of first walker (hard sole) shoes. These shoes are designed
to be supportive and comfortable, meaning that your little one can be
more confident when starting to walk.

We recommend that you should measure your little one’s feet every 6-8
weeks. It’s really important to ensure that they wear the correct size, so
that their feet can continue to develop properly.

In this case, always buy the size based on their biggest foot.

Yes, we can certainly exchange them for you (subject to availability of
stock). Visit our [Contact Us] page and send us a message or give us a call

No, our Borboleta and Fofito shoes are not washable and we strongly
advise against using any form of water or damp substance to clean them,
as it will more than likely damage the leather. Our Marena jelly sandals
can be washed as they are made from PVC

Any of our styles would be suitable as they are all made from leather,
meaning that the material is breathable. Children with this issue would
generally experience it most when wearing shoes made from synthetic
materials like plastic or PU leather.

Once your child reaches school age, it will slow to about one size per year.
All feet stop growing at different times, but by the age of 10, most girls
have completed 90 percent of foot growth. A boy completes about 80
percent of his foot growth by the time he is 10 years old. The feet have
stopped growing for most girls at age 14. Foot growth stops for boys when
they reach 16.

This depends on things like wear and tear, but most importantly it’s about fit. Your child’s feet grow on average three sizes in their first year, then two sizes each year until they start school, and one size until they’re in their late teens. But, of course, every child is different, so it’s important to check their size regularly.
